If you are adding the high availability benefits of Heartbeat to a Linux GroupWise® 7 system that is already up and running, the first step is to install Heartbeat, as described in Section 29.0, Introduction to GroupWise 7 and Heartbeat on Linux.
You do not need to transfer your entire GroupWise system into the cluster all at once. You could transfer individual post offices where the needs for high availability are greatest. You could transfer a domain and all of its post offices at the same time. You might decide that you do not need to have all of your GroupWise system running in the cluster.
This section provides a checklist to help you get started with moving your GroupWise system into a clustering environment:
Decide which shared storage partitions in your cluster you want to use for GroupWise domains and post offices.
Determine the nodes in the cluster where you want GroupWise agents to fail over.
If any nodes in your cluster are servers where GroupWise agents have been running in the past and have been starting automatically, use the following command to make sure that they do not start automatically in the future:
chkconfig grpwise off
In a cluster, the GroupWise agents should not start automatically when a node restarts.
Review Section 30.0, Planning GroupWise in a Heartbeat Cluster and Section 31.0, Setting Up a Heartbeat Cluster. Fill out the Heartbeat Clustering Worksheet and the System Clustering Worksheet to help you decide which domains and post offices you want move to which shared storage partitions.
Move a domain and/or post office onto the shared storage partition, following the instructions in Moving a Domain
in Domains
or Moving a Post Office
in Post Offices
in the GroupWise 7 Administration Guide.
Using the information on the System Clustering Worksheet, install the agents as needed for the first clustered domain and/or post office, following the instructions in Section 14.4, Installing and Configuring the MTA and the POA in a Cluster.
Test the first component of your clustered GroupWise system, following the instructions in Section 14.5, Testing Your Clustered GroupWise System.
Take care of the cluster management details described in Section 14.6, Managing Your Clustered GroupWise System.
Move more domains and post offices into the cluster as needed. If you have GroupWise libraries, see Section 13.5, Planning a New Library for a Clustered Post Office.
Add other components to your clustered GroupWise system as needed, following the instructions in:
