Novell® eDirectory™ 8.7.3 and above, relies heavily on consistent and reliable time stamps for its objects. Time stamps are used in synchronization of directories.
By default, Timesync is loaded with NetWare.
NTP addresses fault tolerance by using a time provider group. In a time provider group, all the servers in one geographical location network obtain time from other servers in the same network. Only one server communicates with a server outside the network and obtains time from it. Therefore, the network traffic across the geographical locations is reduced minimizing traffic across routers and WANs.
All features are as per RFC 1305 on NTPv3.
Supports for browser-based configuration Novell Remote Manager. This helps in centralizing the support and configuration of the NTP time synchronization service on the network for the complete eDirectory tree.
Supports backward compatibility for Timesync.
