9.0 Legal Notices
The following is a list of new features and enhancements that have been incorporated into the various components of the ZENworks Asset Management 7 release. Please refer to the online help for further details about these enhancements.
You can now define rules that control whether a password is allowed or not. You can:
You change the rules by clicking Password Rules in the Manage ZENworks Asset Management Users window, available from the Administration menu. These rules apply when creating users in either the Web Console or the Manager.
If you change the password rules, the next time the user logs in, a message appears, asking the user to create a new password. When the user creates the new password, it is checked against the rules, and the user must re-enter the password until it meets the requirements specified by the rules.
New versions of Java 2 SDK and Apache Tomcat Server are installed with ZENworks Asset Management 7:
Note:
Asset Inventory is a component of ZENworks Asset Management 7. The following enhancements have been added to Asset Inventory:
Any Macintosh computer running Mac OS 10.2.4 or newer can be scanned with Asset Inventory. The reported information includes all information available through the Apple* System Profiler.
Note: Certain reports do not apply to the Mac. For these reports, a message has been added to the report header indicating that the report is for Windows machines only.
New Administration functions have been added to the Web Console to allow you to:
Workstation History in Custom Reports - You can now view workstation history through custom reports.
ZENworks Asset Management provides more granular information about drive types1. Drives are categorized as follows:
1 Added in a software update to TS.Census 3.2, and subsequently added to ZENworks Asset Management 7.
Asset Inventory recognizes installations of virtual machine software such as VMWare and Virtual PC. Two levels of inventory recognition are available:
A new field has been added to a machine's platform information. When you upgrade ZENworks Asset Management, the platform field for each machine is populated with a value of "Generic Workstation". Once the machine has been scanned during the regular inventory cycle, the field is properly populated. For new installations, the field is populated correctly during the first scan.
Software Compliance and Software Usage are included in the full version of ZENworks Asset Management.
A Reseller Connector has been added to Software Compliance to allow direct import of Software Spectrum license purchase data.
The following new reports are available:
Notes can now be added to excluded catalog products and excluded discovered products to record the reason for exclusion, or to add other work notes.
Custom Reports can be defined for server software usage and license allocation information stored in the ZENworks Asset Management database.
Numerous filtering options have been added to Software Compliance pages.
Items in drop-down lists in Software Compliance can now be edited.
The following integration points have been added to ZENworks Asset Management 7:

1 – For the database server, a server-grade multiprocessor system with fast
disk access is recommended for any installation with more than 5,000 managed
devices.
2 – The Database, Web Console, and Collection Servers take advantage of multiprocessor
systems.
3 – The disk space noted is for a base installation. Additional space is required
for expansion over time.

3 Collection clients are not actually installed on Novell
NetWare servers. From the Manager, use the Scan Novell Server Now...

The following virtual machines can run the ZENworks Asset Management Collection Client. They are not currently supported for running ZENworks Asset Management servers:
VMware* |
|
Microsoft |
|
Note: The virtual machines listed above are Windows-only applications. No virtual machines are supported for other platforms.
If you have configured login scripts to run the collection client setup.exe from the File Store, edit your login scripts so that setup.exe does not run while you are upgrading ZENworks Asset Management applications.
If you are running ZENworks Handheld Management using the default MSDE installation, you cannot run the Standalone Deployment of ZENworks Asset Management on the same server.
When you upgrade to the new version, the Java and Tomcat versions remain the same, in case you have other applications which depend on the older versions. For detailed instructions for upgrading your Java and Tomcat versions, see TID #10099062, "Upgrading to Tomcat 5 and JDK 1.4.2 for use with ZAM 7".
The following ZENworks Asset Management capabilities included for Windows Inventory are not available for Macs or UNIX/Linux:
Note: The Microsoft Office for Mac suite is recognized by ZENworks Asset Management, and appears along with its components in both the Asset Inventory and Software Compliance reports. The suite/component relationship is not shown, however. Because of this, Microsoft Office for Mac does not appear in the new Suite/Component and Standalone Component reports, available from the Software Compliance tab's Reports menu.
ZENworks Asset Management does not support Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 installations with the case-sensitive sorting option enabled. (By default, this option is off.)
If your Task Server is installed on a computer running Windows 2000, and you use Novell Netware, you are prompted for Novell login information when a print task is started. Scheduled print jobs cannot be run unless a user provides the login information when the task is run. To resolve this problem, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the fix relating to technical article Q266066.
The following limitations exist in the release relative to server software usage:
