ZENworks has stopped support for Windows Primary Server from the ZENworks 24.2 version onwards. All Windows Primary Servers need to be migrated to either Linux Primary Servers or ZENworks appliance. For more information, see End of Support Windows Primary Server
To facilitate the transition from Windows Primary Servers, you can use the ZENServer migration tool. This migration tool helps you to migrate from Windows Primary Servers to Appliance. You can download the Windows to Appliance Migration tool (zenserver-migration-tool-23.4.0-1.zip) from the Software and License Download center.
NOTE:This tool supports to restore the configuration from a Windows Primary Server to Appliances ONLY.
Also, this migration tool is supported only for ZENworks 23.4. So, you need to deploy 23.4 ZEN appliance.
The migration of Windows Primary Server to ZENworks Appliance includes two steps:
Backing up Windows Primary Server data
Restoring the Windows backed-up files on ZENworks Appliance
Before you start the Windows migration process, ensure the following perquisites are met:
Service Availability: Ensure that all ZENworks services are up and running before triggering the migration tool. Any essential services should be operational to avoid interruptions during the migration process. The migration tool will start these services on the appliance after migration.
Other Server Service Status: If the Windows server hosts the embedded PostgreSQL database, then prior to initiating the migration tool on this ZENworks Primary Server, ensure that all ZENworks services are stopped on all other Primary Servers. In case you are migrating a Primary Server that does not have database role, then you can continue the other servers running.
Passphrase Requirements: The migration tool requires a passphrase to encrypt the backed-up files, and the same passphrase will be required while restoring appliance servers. Ensure that the passphrase contains:
Minimum of ten characters in length
At least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one numeric character, and one special character (for example:!, @, #, $, ^, or *)
Once these prerequisites are met, proceed with the backup process.
NOTE:If you have an external database on the same device as ZENworks server, then do not proceed further. Contact Global Tech Support.
