You can enable the server to display alert messages under various conditions, such as when NLM programs fail to relinquish control of a processor. Many alerts are controlled by server parameters that set a threshold when the alert will be generated. By default, whenever an alert is received, a bell also sounds.
To turn the bell sound off, set the following server parameter in the Miscellaneous category:
Sound Bell for Alerts = OFF
Available alert parameters are described in the following table.
Condition That Generates Alert | Relevant Parameters |
---|---|
Spurious interrupts are detected |
Display Spurious Interrupt Alerts Spurious Interrupt Alert Threshold (See SET > Miscellaneous Parameters in Utilities Reference.) |
Lost interrupts are detected |
Display Lost Interrupt Alerts Lost Interrupt Alert Threshold (See SET > Miscellaneous Parameters in Utilities Reference.) |
NLM programs fail to relinquish control of processor |
Display Relinquish Control Alerts CPU Hog Timeout Amount (See SET > Miscellaneous Parameters in Utilities Reference.) |
Incomplete IPXTM packets are received |
Display Incomplete IPX Packet Alerts (See SET, Display Incomplete IPX Packet Alerts = value in Utilities Reference.) |
Available file cache buffers are nearing minimum |

A volume is becoming full |
Volume Low Warn All Users Volume Low Warning Threshold Volume Low Warning Reset Threshold (See SET > File Parameters for the Traditional File System in Utilities Reference.) |
Many other alerts can be generated by the system, but are not controlled by server parameters. For example, if the address of a server on the network is changed, an alert will be broadcast on other server consoles. You can control these alerts with the ALERT command. See ALERT in Utilities Reference.
