Novell iPrint Goes Mobile

The new Novell iPrint provides more secure, on-the-go printing for today's mobile users

Provo, UT. | July 16, 2013

Novell today announced the release of the newly enhanced Novell iPrint, now available as a standalone product that offers the scalable, self-service enterprise printing with new mobile printing capabilities and Active Directory support. The new Novell iPrint helps IT make an existing fleet of printers mobile ready and enables users to print on-the-go from virtually any device without compromising security.

Novell's expertise and history in networked file and print services is the ideal foundation for a bridge into today's mobile world. As the demand for mobile printing increases, so does the need for a solution that allows users to be productive from any device, regardless of their location. Novell iPrint is widely known for its self-service printing model where users simply "point and click" to install printers from the browser without administrative interaction on Windows and Mac desktops. The newly enhanced iPrint builds upon this simplicity and gives users even more options and capabilities to print using their mobile phones and tablets. Administrators see new enhancements that allow provisioning of users from any LDAP directory and simplified deployment on VMware or other virtualized environments. Additionally, iPrint enables your existing environment and printer fleet so you don't have to buy new hardware to join the mobile movement.

"After evaluating solutions from HP and Xerox, we chose Novell iPrint because it is incredibly easy to use and it provides an unmatched level of control when integrated with our existing fleet of printers," said Kevin Salisbury, manager of Global Marketing and IS&T at TWIN MRO. "In tangent with Novell ZENworks Mobile Management and Novell Filr, we now have an enterprise mobility suite that effectively and securely allows us to manage and control our mobile devices just as we can our desktops and laptops. The end result is a more productive mobile workforce with the benefit of efficient corporate-level, location-aware security policies."

According to the results of a recent IDC study, "The percentage of users who printed from their mobile devices increased dramatically in 2012, and the percentage of those who do not print, and do not want to print, will decline from almost 50% in 2012 to just 25% in 2015 according to respondents. However, a large percentage of smartphone and tablet users do not know how to print from their devices, and a large share say their company has not yet enabled mobile printing."

Novell iPrint allows organizations to escape complex printing environments, letting mobile employees, business partners and customers access printers from a variety of remote locations using existing Internet connections, securely across multiple networks and operating systems. Key features and functionality of the new Novell iPrint include:

  • Mobile Print: Print from virtually any device to any of the existing fleet of an organization's printing resources without requiring an IT admin.
  • On Premise Solution: Avoid abandoning the infrastructure already built and help keep data secure in accordance with established data security policies and procedures.
  • Cross-Platform Support and Integration: Enables businesses to leverage existing investments with a single, unified printing solution that works across platforms and devices including Windows, Mac and Linux desktops and Android, iOS and Blackberry devices.
  • Low Total Cost of Ownership: With its ability to scale, work with legacy printers and simplify printing environments, Novell iPrint keeps employees productive, limits the time IT needs to spend on printing projects and, unlike competitors, does not require the purchase of new hardware.

"Coupled with our recent announcement of Novell Filr, Novell is creating enterprise solutions that foster employee productivity while maintaining a secure and manageable workplace," said Novell Vice President of North America Sales and Global Marketing Eric Varness. "Because the workforce of today is increasingly mobile Novell is expanding its product offerings to deliver easy-to-use, efficient solutions that allow employees to work anywhere, from any device."
