See the following limitations:
File compression will be supported soon.
Block sub-allocation. The block size is fixed at 4 K. When the variable block size is supported, block sub-allocation will be added.
Data migration. Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) and Real Time Data Migration (RTDM). A new version of HSM will be supported in the future.
Sys volume. For this release, the Sys volume must be a traditional NetWare file system volume. An NSS Sys volume will be supported soon.
Transaction Tracking SystemTM (TTSTM). Because TTS is not supported, NSS cannot support a Sys volume at this time. A Sys volume and TTS will be included in the near future.
Network File System (NFS). On an NSS volume, NFS 2.4 included in NetWare 5 Service Pack 2 will work. If you're using traditional NetWare volumes only, any version of NFS will run on a server with mixed NSS and traditional NetWare volumes.
Disk mirroring duplexing. A separate controller installed with each disk for disk mirroring. Disk mirroring will be supported in the near future.
FTP. On an NSS volume, File Transfer Protocol (FTP) included in NetWare 5 Service Pack 2 will work. Earlier versions of FTP may crash the server if used with NSS volumes. If you're using traditional NetWare volumes only, FTP will run on a server with NSS and traditional NetWare volumes.
VREPAIR. The VREPAIR utility has been replaced by the REBUILD and VERIFY utilities for NSS volume rebuilds. VREPAIR still runs correctly on existing traditional NetWare volumes but is not compatible with NSS.
NSS does not currently support, but may in the future:
Disk striping. NSS does support disk spanning, however.
Novell File Transfer Protocol (NFTP).
Novell Network File System (NNFS).
Auditing.
File Name Locks.
