DHCP (and BOOTP) options can be assigned at three levels:
The DHCP server's options inheritance rules specify that options assigned at the lowest level override options set at a higher level.
Global DHCP Configuration is a DHCP Management role that consists of the following tasks:
To define a global DHCP option:
Click DHCP Management > Global DHCP Configuration to open the Global DHCP Configuration window in the main panel.
Select View/Set Global Preferences from the drop-down menu and click OK to open the Global DHCP Preferences window.
Click Modify to open the DHCP Options window.
The DHCP Options you can configure globally are listed in the Available DHCP Options list box. To configure an option, complete the following steps:
Click Done to close the DHCP Options window.
The global DHCP Option you added or configured now appears in the Global DHCP Options list.
To define a global DHCP default:
Click DHCP Management > Global DHCP Configuration to open the Global DHCP Configuration window in the main panel.
Select View/Set Global Preferences from the drop-down menu and click OK to open the Global DHCP Preferences window.
Click Next to open the Excluded Hardware Addresses list in the Global DHCP Defaults window.
This list contains the MAC addresses of clients that should not receive IP addresses from DHCP servers. These exclusions apply to all DHCP servers in the eDirectory tree.
The MAC address is added to the Excluded Hardware Addresses list. This assignment applies to all DHCP servers in the eDirectory tree.
Click Next to open the Included Hardware Addresses list in the Global DHCP Defaults window.
This list contains the MAC addresses of clients that will receive IP addresses from DHCP servers.
The MAC address is added to the Pooled (Included) Hardware Addresses list. This assignment applies to all DHCP servers in the eDirectory tree.
IMPORTANT: The Excluded and Included Hardware Addresses lists are mutually exclusive. You should configure only one of these lists and ensure that the other list is empty.
The DHCP Options Table provides a list of parameters that can be defined for use on the network. After an option is defined, you can assign a value to the option using Global DHCP Options.
Click DHCP Management > Global DHCP Configuration to open the Global DHCP Configuration window in the main panel.
Select View/Set Global Preferences from the drop-down menu and click OK to open the Global DHCP Preferences window.
Click Next > Next > Next to open the DHCP Options Table window that lists both the system-defined and user-defined DHCP options.
Click Done to return to the home page.
Click DHCP Management > Global DHCP Configuration to open the Global DHCP Configuration window in the main panel.
Select View/Set Global Preferences from the drop-down menu and click OK to open the Global DHCP Preferences window.
Click Next > Next > Next to open the DHCP Options Table window that lists both the system-defined and user-defined DHCP options.
Click Add, select the DHCP option code, select the data syntax, add the description of the new option, and click OK.
Click DHCP Management > Global DHCP Configuration to open the Global DHCP Configuration window in the main panel.
Select View/Set Global Preferences from the drop-down menu and click OK to open the Global DHCP Preferences window.
Click Next > Next > Next to open the DHCP Options Table window that lists both the system-defined and user-defined DHCP options.
Select the option code and click Delete.
This feature enables you to copy DHCP 2.0 and 3.0 user files into the eDirectory database.
Click DHCP Management > Global DHCP Configuration to open the Global DHCP Configuration window in the main panel.
Select Import DHCP Configuration from the drop-down menu and click OK to open the Global DHCP Preferences window.
Enter the eDirectory context or browse to select it.
Enter the name of the DHCP Configuration File or browse to select it.
Click OK.
The DHCP Subnet configuration information is displayed.
This allows you to copy the eDirectory database to a text file. The text file enables you to import DHCP subnet configuration data to other applications. You can also import the file back into the eDirectory database by using the DNS/DHCP Management Utility.
Click DHCP Management > Global DHCP Configuration to open the Global DHCP Configuration window in the main panel.
Select Export DHCP Configuration from the drop-down menu and click OK to open the Global DHCP Preferences window.
Add or remove DHCP subnet information:
Click Download File and save the file when prompted.
Click Done to export the file.
