The following require a manual upgrade process for moving to Dynamic File Services 2.2:
32-bit Servers: Version 2.2 is 64-bit only; it is not supported on Windows servers that are running on 32-bit (X86) hardware.
Windows 2003 Servers: Version 2.2 is not supported on Windows 2003.
NOTE:Even if the server hardware is 64-bit and supports Windows 2008 or 2012, a manual upgrade process is still required due to the Windows server operating system change.
To upgrade from Windows 2003 or a 32-bit server installation, we recommend the following as minimal steps for transitioning to Dynamic File Services 2.2. Of course you will also need to follow your organization’s policies and best practices for upgrading or replacing file servers.
Record the following information for your current installation:
Server Pair Details: Everything you need to recreate the server pairs in your current installation.
Policy Details: Everything you need to recreate the policies that govern each pair of your current installation.
Schedule Details: Everything you need to recreate the schedules that you use to manage your current installation.
Run the dswdump command on your installation to generate a text file containing server pair, policy, and schedule configuration information (see Dynamic File Services Configuration Dump Utility
in the Dynamic File Services 2.2 Client Commands and Utilities Reference).
The text generated by dswdump can be useful if you happen to miss something while doing Step 1.
Install Dynamic File Services 2.2.
Configure the new installation using the configuration details that you recorded in Step 1.
