16.1.2 Logging In to Your Mailbox from a Shared Workstation

If multiple people use the same workstation on a regular basis, it is highly recommended that each user have a separate network login for the workstation. When GroupWise saves the display settings for a user, they are saved to the current network user’s local settings store. This allows GroupWise to display the settings for the user who is currently logged in to the workstation, so each user can have a customized view.

When a user finishes using the shared workstation, that user should log out of the workstation completely. This allows other users to log in to the system with their own GroupWise settings.

However, there are circumstances when having a different login for each user on the workstation is not a viable option. In these cases there are some steps you should perform to properly set up GroupWise.

Preparing a Shared Mac Workstation

  1. Control+click the GroupWise icon on the Mac dock, then click Show in Finder.

  2. In Finder, control+click the GroupWise package, then click Show Package Contents.

  3. Edit the info.plist file in the \Contents directory with a text editor.

  4. Edit the string for the Arguments key to add the login startup option. For example:

    <key>Argument</key>
    <string>-@u=?</string>

  5. Save the info.plist file, then exit the text editor

This startup option causes GroupWise to prompt for user information each time it starts.

To prevent users from being prompted for their GroupWise information, a customized GroupWise package and icon can be set up for each user. Each copy of the GroupWise package must have a unique name. The info.plist file for each GroupWise package should include the ‑@u=username and appropriate startup options for Online mode or Caching mode, as described in Section C.0, Startup Options.

Preparing a Shared Linux Workstation

This startup option causes GroupWise to prompt for user information each time it starts.

To prevent users from being prompted for their GroupWise information, a customized GroupWise icon can be set up for each user. Each icon should include the ‑@u username and appropriate startup options for Online mode or Caching mode, as described in Section C.0, Startup Options.
