8.3 Customizing Notify

There are several options that you can set so that Notify works best for you, including the following:

8.3.1 Setting How Long to Display the Notification

  1. Click Tools > Notify.

  2. Mac: Click Preferences.

    Linux: Click Options.

  3. Click General.

  4. Type the number of seconds you want the dialog box to display under Show Notify dialog for.

    You can specify up to 32,767 seconds, which is just over nine hours.

  5. Click OK.

8.3.2 Setting Notification for New Items

  1. Click Tools > Notify.

  2. Click Options.

  3. Click Preferences.

  4. Click Notify.

  5. Select the type of item you want to set notification for.

    or

    Select Use same settings for all types to use the same settings for all items.

  6. Select the Notify options for high priority, standard priority, and low priority items:

    If you select to play a sound, click the folder to browse to and select the sound you want Notify to play.

  7. Click OK.

In order for the notifications to work, make sure you are subscribed to the Notify options in Tools > Options > Security > Notify.

8.3.3 Setting Which Folders to Check for New Items

You can select multiple folders for Notify to check and send notifications for.

  1. Click Tools > Notify.

  2. Mac: Click Preferences.

    Linux: Click Options.

  3. Click General.

    In the Select folders to check for notifications list box:

  4. Mac: Command+click each folder to check

    Linux: Ctrl+click each folder to check.

    You can select any folder in the list, whether it is a shared folder or a folder you own.

  5. Click OK.

8.3.4 Setting How Often to Check for New Items

  1. Click Tools > Notify.

  2. Mac: Click Preferences.

    Linux: Click Options.

  3. Click General.

  4. Type the number of minutes under Check for mail every.

  5. Click OK.

8.3.5 Setting How to Be Notified for Calendar Alarms

  1. Click Tools > Notify.

  2. Mac: Click Preferences.

    Linux: Click Options.

  3. Click Alarms.

  4. Select if you want the Notify pop-up dialog box to display.

  5. Select if you want to play a sound. If you select to play a sound, click the folder to browse to the sound you want Notify to play.

  6. Select if you want Notify to launch a program when notifying you.

  7. Click OK.

8.3.6 Setting How to Be Notified about Outgoing Message Status

  1. Click Tools > Notify.

  2. Mac: Click Preferences.

    Linux: Click Options.

  3. Click Return Status.

  4. Deselect Use same settings for all types.

  5. Click the Settings for drop-down list, then select the item type you want to make selections for.

  6. Select how you want to be notified for different status changes of that item type.

  7. Click OK.

If you are sending messages to non-GroupWise systems, remember that those systems must have status tracking capability in order to return the status of your outgoing message to your GroupWise system.

8.3.7 Setting How to Be Notified about Return Status Messages

  1. Click Tools > Notify.

  2. Mac: Click Preferences.

    Linux: Click Options.

  3. Click Return Status.

  4. Select the type of item that you want to set notification for.

    or

    Select Use same setting for all types to use the same settings for all types of items.

  5. Select the following options for items when opened, when accepted, when completed, and when deleted:

    1. Select if you want the Notify pop-up dialog box to display.

    2. Select if you want to play a sound. If you select to play a sound, click the folder to browse to the sound you want Notify to play.

    3. Select if you want Notify to launch a program when notifying you.

  6. Click OK.

If you are sending messages to non-GroupWise systems, remember that those systems must have status tracking capability in order to return the status of your outgoing message to your GroupWise system.
