In your web browser, go to the MySQL or MariaDB download site.
Scroll down if necessary, then click the type of Windows operating system you are using (32-bit or 64-bit).
On the Windows Essentials line, click Download.
Click Save File, browse to and select a convenient temporary directory, then click Save.
In Windows Explorer, browse to the directory where you saved the MySQL .exe file.
Double-click the .exe file to start the Setup Wizard.
Follow the online instructions to install the software on the Windows server, then continue with Step 8 to configure the server.
Unless you are already familiar with configuring MySQL or MariaDB on a Windows server, select Standard Configuration, then click Next.
Select Include Bin Directory in Windows PATH, then click Next.
Set the database root user password, then click Next.

Click Execute to configure the database server, then click Finish.
Some messages report the status of your installation.
To monitor the database server, click Start > All Programs, then click MySQL > MySQL Server 5.1 > MySQL Command Line Client or the equivalent MariaDB options.
