Before you start the Notes Gateway, make sure that it has network access to the following locations:
The GroupWise® domain directory and subdirectories where you installed the gateway files. The gateway requires Read, Write, Create, Erase, Modify, and File Scan rights.
The Notes/Domino server. If you installed the Notes Gateway on a server other than the Notes/Domino server (the recommended configuration), you should have already provided access when you configured the Notes side of the gateway, as described in Section 4.5, Setting Up Server and Database Access for the Notes Gateway User
Make sure that the Notes client is running on the Notes Gateway server, then follow the instructions for the installation method you chose for the Notes Gateway (worksheet item 7):
IMPORTANT:After you start the gateway, stop and then start the MTAs in the GroupWise system. This establishes the links to the non-GroupWise domain that represents the Notes system.
At the Windows server where you installed the Notes Gateway, click

.When running as an application, the Notes Gateway server console appears on the server while it is running. For instructions on interpreting the information displayed on the Notes Gateway server console, and for information about other monitoring alternatives, see Section 8.0, Monitoring the Notes Gateway.
Stop and then start the MTAs in the GroupWise system.
This establishes the links to the non-GroupWise domain that represents the Notes system.
After the Notes Gateway has started successfully and the links between systems have been established, skip to Section 7.0, Configuring the Notes Gateway.
At the Windows server where you installed the Notes Gateway, click

.In the alphabetical list of services, the name of the Notes Gateway service starts with the name of the domain where the gateway is installed, followed by the name of the gateway itself, followed by Service. For example, if the domain is named Connector and the gateway is named Notes, then the name of the service would be ConnectorNotesService.
Select the gateway service, then click
.When running as a service, the Notes Gateway does not have a console on the server where it is running. However, you can monitor it in other ways, as described in Section 8.0, Monitoring the Notes Gateway.
Stop and then start the MTAs in the GroupWise system.
This establishes the links to the non-GroupWise domain that represents the Notes system.
After the Notes Gateway has started successfully and the links between systems have been established, continue with Section 7.0, Configuring the Notes Gateway.
